“Love is a great interpreter”

– Alice Bailey

People consult astrologers for a myriad of different reasons. Sometimes clients will seek guidance on relatively simple and straightforward issues, such as strategies for business ventures or the timing of important actions, such as marriage, medical procedures or financial transactions. Even in these cases the astrologer requires a combination of technical mastery, psychological insight and knowledge of the ways of the world in order to provide sound advice.

But inevitably there will be times when astrologers are called upon to address the most critical life-changing events that human beings can be called upon to endure, such as bereavement and other crises that can be existential for clients. As your skill and discernment develops as an astrologer you will be periodically challenged to meet requests for guidance and support on issues that will stretch your capacities to the limit.

Astrological information is not a magical cure-all all by itself. It’s one thing to be able to identify the astrological signature of a difficult situation, whether in the past, present or future, its another matter altogether to provide the kind of insight that can meaningfully help someone to navigate these challenges. We ultimately have to find a lot of this wisdom outside of the technical side of astrological study, and perhaps the most valuable source of this wisdom is a combination of life experience, philosophical inquiry, and some form of spiritual practice. These are things that we perpetually cultivate, rather than master. As astrologers we have to continually strive to grow as individuals, we have to meet our own personal challenges with integrity, fortitude and courage if we are to be equipped to use astrology as a tool for providing help and healing to others. This is not about being perfect. It’s about living life mindfully with a sincere aspiration to improve. If you’re learning little from your own life you will have little to offer others who need guidance.

This course does not promise to provide a simple formula that will enable you to get it right every time- because no such formula exists- but this course will delve into a great many of the nuances of astrological counselling that will not be obvious to less experienced practitioners.

Although this course will substantially focus on certain philosophical and metaphysical principles that illumine the human condition, and how we can apply these to be effective in providing astrological counsel, it will also include a significant amount of technical astrological teaching. These are all essential ingredients in an astrology that can help and heal people struggling with the vicissitudes of life.

Although this course would be ideal for intermediate level students of astrology who are starting to practice or intend to practice as consulting astrologers, it should also prove valuable for those who simply want to deepen their astrology as a tool for self-inquiry and personal growth.

Amoung the specific topics covered in this course are the following:

  • The importance of having a philosophical paradigm through which to understand the human condition.
  • Holistic models of human functions and drives: the integration of physiology, psychology and spirituality.
  • The primacy of transiting Saturn in the timing of life’s most important milestones.
  • Jupiter’s role in self-realisation and healing.
  • The evolutionary opportunities and crises produced by the Outer Planets.
  • Suggestions regarding various technical considerations: house systems, zodiacs, and the importance of empirical observation.
  • Principles of relationship analysis and counselling.
  • Chart synthesis vs. fragmented analysis: the danger of too much diverse detail in consultations.
  • Fate vs. Free Will: understanding the scope and limitations of individual agency and the spectrum of possible manifestations of astrological influences.
  • Clarity of intention regarding the aim and purpose of a consultation.
  • Ethical considerations: confidentiality, impersonality and boundaries.

Richard Fidler has been in constant practice as a professional consulting astrologer for over 30 years and therefore brings a wealth of experience to this subject. Nothing in this course is based on a purely theoretical understanding; it is the product of tens of thousands of hours of using astrology to assist real people with real-life issues.

  • Each lesson will be approximately 2 hours in duration.
  • All lessons will be recorded and made available to participants for future review.
  • Fee: by donation. £90-£150 GBP is the suggested range, but any contribution is accepted.

To register for this course simply make your donation and I’ll be in touch soon to confirm.
