Workshop: Secondary & Solar Arc Progressions – 26 July 2026

To see a world in a grain of sand

And a heaven in a wild flower,

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand

And eternity in an hour.

-William Blake

Secondary and Solar Arc Progressions are among the most potent and reliable timing techniques used by Western astrologers. The theory is relatively simple: with Secondary Progressions the basic axiom is that a day corresponds to a year and we’d look at the 30th day after birth to represent the 30th year of life, and for Solar Arc Progressions (or “Directions”) all the planets move at the rate of the Secondary Progressed Sun.

That may sound pretty straight forward, but there’s a lot to consider when applying these formulas in actual practice. Even though the calculations can be done with astrological software (and there are some very useful free online resources for this which we’ll explore), you need to know what you’re doing to use these tools well and to avoid common mistakes. This workshop is designed to help you get the most of these important astrological techniques.

In this workshop you’ll learn to:

  • calculate Secondary and Solar Arc Progressed charts using online resources
  • use appropriate aspect orbs
  • anchor Secondary Progressed positions to the ephemeris so that you can easily look backwards and forwards in time and note varying speeds of planets and changes of direction (retrograde and direct motion)
  • incorporate Midpoints using Midpoint Trees and the 90 degree dial
  • calculate 45 degree multiple aspects (which show up as oppositions on the 90 degree Dial)
  • use the Graphic Ephemeris to see decades worth of cycles at a glance
  • incorporate Declination into your use of Secondary Progressions

Date/Time: 26 July 2026, 16:00 – 20:00 UK time (GMT +1).
