The Meteoric Rise of Nigel Farage: Peak or Precipice?

You’d think that Nigel Farage must overjoyed right now, what with the fact that his Reform Party has totally laid waste to the old order of British politics in the recent local elections. It has become apparent that Farage may well end up being the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. For left-leaning folks, for those dependant on state welfare, and for immigrants on temporary visas hoping to gain the right to settle in the UK, this is a nightmarish prospect.

Despite his party’s recent stunning success, Nigel’s transits seem to suggest that he may have some curveballs to contend with before too long. Transiting Saturn is about to station while in close conjunction with his natal Sun, and transiting Neptune is about to station in close conjunction with his natal Mars. Either of those potent transits on their own would be enough to take the wind out of your sales. In tandem, I would think they present quite a formidable challenge. I won’t pretend to know what the outcomes will be, but I have little doubt these astrological events will have a significant impact on him, and it seems hard to believe he’ll breeze through the process without any problems.

The most optimistic reading of transiting Saturn conjunct natal Sun would suggest a time of increased responsibility. Such transits, while often extremely trying, are not uncommon in the charts of politicians when they experience a major career breakthrough. In palmistry the tallest finger, yes, the middle finger (go figure!), belongs to Saturn. Saturn can take you higher than any other planet, but these dizzying heights can be precarious, and the fall from these heights can be precipitous.

On the other end of the spectrum of possibilities for Saturn conjunct Sun there is the possibility of a health crisis, or a crisis relating to the security of your social position. The sheer scale of Reform’s success means that the party now has hundreds of newly elected officials, many I suspect with limited relevant experience, who have to assume responsibility for running things; and the buck stops with Nigel Farage. Even in the most optimistic scenario there will be a tremendous amount for him to attend to, no matter how effectively he delegates managerial tasks to others. Even a person in rude health could buckle under such pressure.

In this regard transiting Neptune conjunct Mars is no help; it complicates his situation at a delicate time. Transiting Neptune conjunct Mars tends to deplete not only physical vigour, but also confidence. Sometimes it creates a situation in which you feel like you’re under attack, but the source of the threat is hidden, veiled or underhand in some way. You can’t strike back, you can’t lash out, because you can’t see the target. Neptune conjunct Mars can leave you feel demoralized, ineffectual and vulnerable. This seems strangely at odds with what you’d assume he’d be feeling in light of his party’s meteoric rise- and this is one reason I wonder if there isn’t going to be a surprising twist in this tale.

It’s hard to know whether these factors simply indicate that his health or confidence will be susceptible to a slight deterioration as a result of the increased pressure his success has brought on, or whether a more serious and consequential implosion of his ability to lead the Reform Party in its hour of glory is about to occur. Either way, he needs to take care if he hopes to stay in the game.

Transiting Uranus stationing close to his Midheaven in the months immediately ahead further thickens this plot. It isn’t a factor that relates to health and vitality specifically, but it does represent an element of unpredictability in public and professional life. It can indicate abrupt and unexpected events that impact your social position. At best it may simply describe a situation in which you’re very busy with exciting work and bold, pioneering projects; but it can bring dramatic unforeseen events that alter your course completely, for better or worse.

Whether you love him or hate him, Nigel Farage, seems to be on an unstoppable trajectory that leads to the highest position in UK politics in just a few years from now- but his astrology seems to be indicating that he will have to navigate some pretty treacherous territory first. He may well do so successfully, I don’t know, but it’s not a given.
